Build $1 Million Rental Business by Stacking the Deck

Pre-market your business so people buy immediately when you open.

I just finished reading the book, 12 Months to $1 Million by Ryan Daniel Moran.

In the book, Ryan talks about "stacking the deck" when launching a new product or business.

Stacking the deck means someone is pre-marketing their business. So when they open, people buy immediately.

This makes sure a grand opening sounds like an ATM rather than a cricket farm.

Not a lot of people do this extra work. Are you prepared to learn the sauce?

Let's dive in.

Build in Public

Building in public is storytelling. In our case, it's sharing the story of starting a short-term rental business.

And if we know anything about marketing, people buy into story.

In the book, Ryan talks about how building an audience led to extraordinary product releases.

"I just began talking about our product in Facebook Groups. Overtime, people started asking questions."

Ryan Daniel Moran

He built in public on social media, and I think we should too.

This will allow our future guests to:

  • See the building process.

  • Feel the emotions that go into starting a business.

  • Become sold on the vision we have for our stays.

And once you're ready to take bookings, your audience will be the first to buy.

Tell Google

3-6 months before opening, you'll want to get a website up and tell Google about it.

How to tell Google about you're site:

  1. Index your site on Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster tools. These are free. Indexing tells the Google Bot to go through your site and figure out where you should be placed on the worldwide web.

  2. Optimize your pages so Google happy. Use terms people use to find businesses like yours and put those terms (keywords) on your website. This process will show you the step by step.

You want to do this process 3-6 months before launch. That's roughly how long it takes for Google to know, like and trust you.

Getting up on the organic search rankings is a huge way to stack the deck in your favor.

Work with Influencers

"Before you launch, tell 10 friends, build an audience of 1000 fans and work with 1 influencer."

Ryan Daniel Moran

I have seen short-term rentals have great launches by following this one step.

They put in the work to build an audience of 1000 fans and right before launch, hired an influencer to promote it.

Not only will influencers take great content of your property, but also promote the grand opening to their fan base. Which is typically much larger than yours.

Now you are the newest rental in a big pond of short-term rental loving crazies.

If you don't know any influencers, I found this great database to help.

$1 Million Companies Stack The Deck

In the book, Ryan stresses this concept.

The chapter is like 50 minutes long on Audible of him just pounding it into our heads.

Why?

No one does it. And neither did he in his first ventures.

Builds or remodels take a long time and it's easy to get caught up in that process.

But with a little effort in marketing, you can make a lot of money right from the start.

Remember, a business with no customers is just a project.

Get guests before you open by:

  1. Building in public on social media.

  2. Telling Google about your property.

  3. Working with influencers.

and you may hit revenues that were once a dream.

That's all for today. I'll see you in the next article.
