My Secret SEO Process

Most business owners I work with think SEO is about ranking number one.

Ranking is important, but it's not the only goal. The aim of any good search engine optimizer is to hit the traffic that converts.

Being number one for a keyword that doesn't convert is less valuable than being ranked lower for a high-converting keyword.

In this article I'm going to give you my personal framework that will show you:

  • How to find money making keywords.

  • How to use them (with Ai).

Try to rank for anything, you will rank for nothing.

In my early days I would take the blog post strategy and just write content about anything and everything then somehow relate it back to the client.

The result? The client got a lot of uninterested visitors and a low return on investment.

Sorry past-me clients.

Now, I optimize for one topic every quarter.

The result? I find the traffic that converts using my "search by intent" framework.

The Search by Intent Framework

The goal of the search by intent framework is to hit customers that are:

  • Wanting to learn about your thing.

  • Wanting to buy your thing.

  • Ready to buy your thing.

For example, if I owned a tiny home in northern Wisconsin I would want to rank for terms like:

  • Best cabins in northern Wisconsin.

  • Tiny homes in northern Wisconsin.

  • Tiny home in Hayward, Wisconsin.

Typically the more specific the keywords are, the more likely someone is to buy.

But, you want to make sure other people are ranking for these keywords as well.

Otherwise, you'll be too specific and no one is searching those terms anyway.

Do this by typing those terms into a search engine. If you see other companies with your keyword or a variation, you're good to go.

keyword specificity graph verus liklihood to purchase

P.s. There are paid tools I use to get more defined intent data. Do you want me to write an article about them?

What To Do With These Keywords

Once you settle on a set of keywords, you'll wanna create content around them. I only use two formats.

  1. Wanting to learn about your thing - Blog

  2. Wanting to buy your thing - Blog / Landing Page

  3. Ready to buy your thing - Landing Page

Rather than brainstorm content around what to write, I have a different solution.

Use the power of AI

First, organize your keywords by intent using the list above.

Start with the "Ready to buy your thing" intent and work up.

Since it's a landing page, you'll want to use this template and paste it into ChatGPT.

Above the template you'll wanna give Chat some direction on how to write the landing page.

Ask ChatGPT to write the content using this prompt:

hey chat, i'm building a website for my vacation rental. I want the landing page to rank for this keyword: "{YourKeyword}" . Can you create the content to the website using the below framework? Here's some content I wrote to help you get started:

1. SomethingUniqueAboutYourCabin1
2. SomethingUniqueAboutYourCabin2
3. SomethingUniqueAboutYourCabin3

{PasteTheTemplate}

Your full input and output should look something like this:

Don't copy GPTs output right away. I always say AI can bring you 80% there. We use our brain for the last 20%.

Cross check every sentence GPT wrote to make sure it's relevant to your property.

And make edits as needed.

After that's done, you're ready to implement everything onto the site.

This process is very similar to writing a blog, I just use a different template. You can find that template here.

This is my SEO Framework

Really? Really. I use this framework for all my marketing clients and have seen great results. You can too by:

  1. Finding one topic to rank for. (i.e. location, things to do, etc...)

  2. Finding keywords by intent.

  3. Using AI to help build the content around the pages.

If you need any help with this process, feel free to reach out to me. This is my bread and butter.

Otherwise, happy ranking!

That's all for today. I'll see you in the next article.
