Stupid Simple Prebooking Strategy

Prebooking seems to be a buzzword lately. I've had more people reach out to talk about this strategy in the last year than ever before.

If you don't know what i'm talking about, I'll give you the elevator pitch:

Prebooking strategy: Make money while building a waitlist for a new airbnb or hotel.

This sounds phenomenal to rental operators who are building a new spot.

Honestly, it is.

Yet, it's hard to grasp. I think because it's so simple to the point where it's confusing.

Today, I'm going to explain how this all works using context most people understand.

Enter: Scotts Pub

Let's imagine I'm starting a restaurant down the block from where you live. It's called Scotts Pub because I'm brilliant at naming things.

Your town is finally going to get:

  • Quality cocktails

  • Craft food

  • Outdoor patio space with a bonfire

You see my ads everywhere on Facebook and Instagram. I'm opening in October and you can't wait.

One day, my ad catches your eye with this headline:

"Spend $5 now, Save $50 when we open"

Ohp. That's curious. You click the link to learn more and start reading the offer page.

What you realize:

  • If you spend $5 right now....

  • You will get a $50 coupon code delivered on opening day (that you can use anytime)

  • Exclusive access to the first Friday + Saturday (no lines, wait times, etc...)

All for $5. That's a pretty good offer right?

I'd buy that. Wouldn't you?

Why this works

As the future owner of Scotts Pub, I love this strategy.

I'm getting paid to build hype and awareness.

As a future customer of Scotts Pub, you love this strategy too. You're essentially investing in a future experience but the ROI is guaranteed.

The same thing applies for airbnbs and hotels. It's all hospitality.

  • Promote the future experience

  • Let excited customers (guests) invest in your success for a clear outcome

  • Use Meta Ads to get the word out

  • Enjoy a high-revenue grand opening

That's it! I'll end the article here to avoid over explaining.

That’s all for today. I’ll see you in the next article.

P.S. Back in Boston after a great race weekend in Wisconsin. I did one race on Saturday and one on Sunday. Here are the stats you didn’t ask for:

Saturday (sprint triathlon):

  • 5th place in age group. Need to cut 3min off the bike for a podium

  • Race temperature: 74 degrees

  • Kicks in the face during the swim: 1

  • Post race pork sandwiches: 3

Sunday (olympic triathlon relay):

  • I did the run (6.2 miles)

  • 4th place in division

  • Seconds away from a PR: 2

  • Post race pork sandwiches: 2
