In this article I'm going to share how to 10x ROI with influencer marketing.

Most Entrepreneurs think the engagement between host and influencer ends at the shout out.

I think that's when the party is getting started.

Influencers work very hard to build an engaged audience on social media.

They are always:

  • Visiting new stays.

  • Trying out new content to see what performs best.

  • Talking with other influencers.

And chances are they have learned a lot about our beloved short term rental industry along the way.

Here's why asking questions can 10x your influencer investment.

Ask for Feedback:

Airbnb influencers are seasoned travelers. They know what good looks like.

When an influencer visits your property, you have an opportunity to get feedback from a travel "pro." Take advantage of it.

Every time an influencer stays at your property. Ask them two questions:

  • What are 3-5 things you like about {YourProperty}?

  • What are 3-5 things we can improve?

Most influencers are creative people. Every time I work with creatives, I always notice they have a nack for pointing out the small details.

And if we know anything about the short term rental industry, the small things matter.

Their feedback creates improvements.

Improvements create happy guests.

Happy guests tell their friends.

Ask for Coaching: 

Discover their process and use it yourself.

Building an audience on social media isn't rocket science. It only involves two things:

  • Process.

  • Consistency.

Ask the influencer during your initial chat if they'd be open to coaching you on how to grow on social media.

While you can't learn consistency, you can learn their process.

Following their process is what may get you to never need a paid promotion again.

Ask for a Referral: 

I'm going to let you in on a little secret.

In the marketing industry we live in a world called Markopolis. Where marketers live and work together.

Jk. Markopolis doesn't exist. But marketers seriously do live and work together.

Since marketing is half a creative field, we need other creatives to bounce ideas off.

Influencers are creatives and have influencer friends.

After you are happy with the work an influencer did, send them this follow up email:

Hey ______

I'm very happy with the work you did at {YourProperty}. I'm very glad we had the chance to get connected! I think I would like to stick with the influencer marketing approach for a while. Do you know anyone else in the space that would be interested in working with us and {YourProperty}? The scope would be similar to our engagement.

If they are willing to refer, you can rerun this entire process with that new influencer to build more data points like:

  • What do they all give feedback on?

  • Do they all use similar social media processes?

  • Which influencer has your winning audience? (assuming they don't all have the same people following each other).

Getting advice from several industry pro's can get you lightyears ahead of the competition.

If you're spending the money to get an internet social butterfly on site, you may as well maximize your dollars by asking them questions.

If you're worried about overstepping boundaries, let me offer one piece of advice.

People always appreciate the curious.

And if they say no. Try again.

I believe if you make these three asks when working with influencers you will:

  1. Discover the details that create 5-star stays.

  2. Learn how the social media pro's built their audience.

  3. Meet new influencers to grow your network.

So that maybe someday soon, you are the influencer.
